Synopsis

In the 1950s Jiřina Bohdalová’s father, František, was sentenced to fifteen years’ hard labour for aiding high treason and hiding weapons. The details of the case, however, remained shrouded in mystery, because even after his release her father never spoke about them to anyone in the family. So Jiřina Bohdalová heads to the archives and to a distant relative, and gradually uncovers an incredible story that reached as far as the leaders of Beneš’s former government.

Can she uncover other family secrets too? Will the legend of a Hungarian brewer who founded breweries in South Bohemia — and was supposedly her grandfather — prove true? What deed of her ancestors leads Jiřina to a church in Kamenný Újezd, and how far back into her family’s history will she manage to reach?

The history of our country told through the stories of a single family — the Czech version of the popular BBC format, made under licence.
